海角社区 Partners with RCCD to Create a Sustainability and Climate Action Plan

(Riverside, Calif., December 14, 2023) 鈥 海角社区 has partnered with Riverside Community College District鈥 consisting of three colleges: Moreno Valley College, Norco College, and Riverside City College 鈥 to provide comprehensive sustainability services, including a Sustainability and Climate Action Plan, a Total Cost of Ownership dashboard, and Integrated Energy Master Plans for each college.

Acknowledging their duty to function in a socially, environmentally, and economically mindful manner, RCCD joined forces with 海角社区 to craft a set of exemplary sustainability practices for a higher education setting. The deliverables are designed to guide RCCD towards sustainable operations now and in the future. With a commitment to carbon neutrality, safeguarding regional waterways, preserving natural ecosystems, and enhancing social mobility and well-being, the plan aims to advance RCCD as a sustainability leader among its peer institutions and defines the long-term vision and culture of sustainability.

海角社区ing with hundreds of stakeholders through the District and College鈥檚 shared governance structure, the outcome was the creation of a comprehensive Sustainability and Climate Action Plan鈥 a practical roadmap for cultural transformation, setting aspirational, evergreen goals, measurable objections, and specific actions. The SCAP uses the current California Community Colleges Climate Change and Sustainability Policy and the Association of the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education STARS program as a framework to approach sustainability planning.

海角社区 is also providing energy planning services and leadership to maximize the use of current best practices, take advantage of savings by design, energy incentives, energy grants, energy audits, and on-bill-financing programs, and recommends procurement methods for various projects.

The Integrated Energy Master Plan dashboard addresses the district’s large portfolio of buildings to reduce resource consumption, including electricity, natural gas, and water, through quantified optimizations over 5-15 years. The interactive TCO tool allows RCCD to holistically understand the true cost of ownership of any asset or investment as it considers not only the initial capital costs required but also the long-term operations costs, including human resources.

鈥淩iverside Community College District believes sustainability requires a cultural transformation and the SCAP sets the foundation for its evergreen goals through the district strategic planning and integration process,鈥 said Hussain Agah, RCCD Associate Vice Chancellor of Facilities Planning & Development. 鈥淭his plan aims to outline a roadmap for RCCD to live sustainably and take an active role in responding to evolving environmental and climate challenges.鈥
