The 124,000-SF Biomedical and Materials Engineering Complex Phase 2 will sit on Ohio State鈥檚 Columbus campus. Renovations will be made to the existing MacQuigg Hall, and an addition will reside at the site of the former Watts Laboratory. The improvements aim to facilitate increased interaction and resource sharing among engineering disciplines.

The project maximizes collaborative learning and research. It will be the home of first-year engineering courses, biomedical and advanced materials R&D, and engaging K-12 STEM programs. It will contain research laboratories and makerspaces to provide opportunities for hands-on innovation and education. Administrative changes include the creation of modern workplace environments, a new dean鈥檚 suite, faculty and postdoctoral offices, and study areas. Externally, the design offers an outdoor entry plaza and as well as an extended green space along the north side of the complex. The facility provides an adaptable, dynamic environment that will fluctuate to meet the needs of the College of Engineering over time.

Designs are complete and the facility is expected to open by December 2025.
