Established in 1942, Cannon Air Force Base is home to the 27th Special Operations Wing. Our design for their new Squadron Operations Facility uses mission-style architecture to visually enhance yet meld seamlessly with the surrounding high plains of eastern New Mexico.
The new Squadron Operations Facility was designed to aid the 27 SOW鈥檚 mission to develop, sustain and execute specialized and contingency operations.
The facility is two stories, with a free-standing outdoor covered storage and single-story Human Performance Training Center that are both separate from the two-story structure. The Human Performance Training Center includes a double-high training space, therapy areas, a classroom, and administrative offices. There is also an Aquatic Training Center and Small Arms Firing Range, housed in separate single-story training facilities. The Aquatic Training Center’s functional areas include an 82-foot long, seven-lane (8.2-foot each) wide pool, an equipment storage area, men’s and women’s restrooms with lockers and showers, communications space, and required circulation.
The project includes industrial and warehouse-type spaces, team rooms, operator’s cages, a parachute drying tower, and an armory. Administrative spaces include command, special communications, and operations. The Special Tactics Squadron Operational Training Facilities includes adequate facilities and infrastructure, adequately sized and configured聽for their associated vehicles, equipment, and home station training requirements.
