Upon launching its first-ever football program, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte offered us the rare opportunity to plan and design a new football stadium and field house with Charlotte firm Jenkins Peer.聽Focused on creating a dynamic gameday experience, numerous site options, orientation opportunities and phasing strategies were analyzed to create the best new traditions for both student-athletes and fans alike.
Located in the heart of campus, our design team thoughtfully integrated the traditional architectural style found throughout into the design of the new facilities. The stadium complex is focused around a 15,300-seat, horseshoe-shaped seating bowl. We proactively designed the stadium with consideration to future expansion via a smartly planned phased approach that will eventually increase capacity to 25,000, and ultimately to 40,000. Adjacent to the stadium are two natural turf practice fields.
Student-athletes also utilize the 46,150-SF Judy W. Rose Football Center, named after the former Athletic Director and featuring a state-of-the-art football locker room, coaches鈥 offices and meeting rooms, a vast player lounge, 11,000 SF of conditioning and training space, and a 7,000-SF hospitality deck that overlooks the field from its end zone location. The football center also includes an academic facility that is designed to benefit all 49er student-athletes on their journey to academic success.
